Interim Finance Director

The Psi-ense newsletter article on getting through the downturn emphasises the importance of controlling costs, accessing all funding sources available and keeping key stakeholders fully informed of the company's situation. This will inevitably require some high level financial expertise - even a day or two a month of an interim finance director can make a significant difference.

Chris Budleigh is a chartered accountant and has worked in a range of roles in the accountancy profession, large corporates and SMEs. Since founding Psi-ense in 2005, Chris has been involved with a wide range of financial assignments, including interim finance director roles, strategic planning, market assessment exercises, writing business plans and fundraising.

Prior to Psi-ense, Chris was Managing Director for a research instrumentation company, where he gained experience of several other disciplines, including sales and marketing, strategic planning and new product development.

Core areas of expertise include:

Early stage ventures
Pre-revenue companies with tight resource constraints, fund raising, business plan development, initial setup of financial functions.

High growth technology companies
Implementation of robust financial management, specialist areas including share options and R&D tax credits.

Financial process improvement
Improvements to reporting packages, streamlining of processes to reduce reporting timescales and personnel requirements. Considerable experience of working capital management

Turnaround situations
Experience of working in cross functional teams to bring an organisation back to profitability, tight control of cashflow, liaison with banks and key suppliers.

Systems implementations
Scenario modelling approach to financial software package selection. Implementation of software and liaison with vendors, employee training for new systems.
